The Impact You Don't See

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue." — Proverbs 18:21

There's something uniquely special about the privilege of coaching young men and women.

It's likely not obvious when you take on a coaching responsibility; that you are positioned to create generational impact in every person you coach; even those you coach against.

Maybe that seems like an exaggeration.

I truly believe it's not.

A coach has the power to spot each person's unique value. Not only to see, but also to call out traits that athletes often don't yet see in themselves. These are little sparks where their talents, interests, and identity combine into what we commonly label as "potential."

Helping athletes develop character, confidence, and resilience, great coaches fan these sparks into a fire that athletes will carry farther than their cleats. It will shape how they will contribute at work, how they will parent, and how they will influence everyone around them.

That's a great privilege. And a great responsibility.

This blog series is my attempt to contribute positively to the coaches who consider themselves learners, through storytelling, leadership principles, and practical frameworks borrowed from my work in organizational health.

To all the coaches who hate losing as much as I do, but who also realize the game is bigger than just winning at one buzzer, I see you.
